We Scientists Shape Science

We want science to be creative, solid, open, helpful for society and a good career opportunity for the talented youth. Let’s start to change what it means to be a scientist and the way and the framework in which science is conducted. It is us scientists who need to change science. Researchers and key players in the Swiss science landscape will decide upon first steps at the meeting. It is time for doing science better.

Lessons learnt from paleoscience on a possible 1.5-2°C warmer world in the future

The goal of the workshop is to summarize the current status of knowledge on the response of the Earth system to a 1.5-2°C warming. It will also lay out future scientific actions to add to this knowledge in order to come up with authoritative assessments of future long-term changes in the Earth system as expected from past examples of warmer climate conditions.

2nd European Hail Workshop

The 2nd European Hail Workshop will take place on 19 - 21 April 2017 in Bern. In several regions of Europe, including Switzerland, south-west Germany and Austria, hail damage has increased substantially in recent years with the consequence that hail is now one of the major atmospheric risks. The Mobiliar Lab, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), MeteoSwiss, and the OCCR are jointly organizing this second workshop for researchers and professionals to discuss different aspects of hail.

Our Water: Six Models for the Future

Water is energy, life, a daily constant, an asset. Water is simply there – it shapes and determines our existence. We have a fixed idea in our heads of Switzerland as the “Alpine reservoir” of Europe, but this is threatened by recurrent sweltering summers and snowless winters. Societal development and climate change are also factors that will affect the availability of our water.
